 For
a beauty boutique, this program is extremely entertaining. There
have been many Barbie titles similar to this one, but Barbie
Beauty Boutique is the best of the bunch. Why? It's slick
and sleek, extremely easy to use, and kids just love it.
Of course, parents looking for a
program that has educational value should look elsewhere. Barbie
Beauty Boutique, however, makes a fun and somewhat creative
pastime for children who enjoy free play software games.
Children begin by selecting which
friend (Barbie, Christie, or Teresa) they would like to make over,
as well as an event (such as an award show, modeling gig, or movie
premiere) they want their doll to prepare for. After this, they
select an area of the salon to go to first--perhaps they'd like to
do the doll's hair first, or her nails, for example. Kids can
color the doll's hair, add streaks, choose the cut and the style,
blend colors for lipstick, give the dolls a manicure, and more.
Players select the music for the background--it's an all-around
pleasant experience.
We were impressed with the sleek
presentation of the game--the dolls move and react to players'
choices. Teresa, for example, will hold her head back and close
her eyes when kids pick up the eye shadow with their mouse.
Positive reinforcement ("you're a great hair stylist")
is not only delivered verbally, kids actually get to see their
doll dressed and made up exactly as they have selected in action
in a little video!
