Man 2 Who
knew a movie based on a comic book could be so ripe with
sensitivity? The flashy, exciting visuals are to be
expected, and very much appreciated by both kids and adults
alike! Action, comedy, drama...Spider Man 2 has it all, and
does it well. What
is pleasantly surprising about this sequel to the
blockbuster of 2002 is its exploration of the concept of
personal destiny and identity that is likely to resound in
the hearts of viewers of all ages. Tobey McGuire plays Peter
Parker, who is a college student struggling with the
juggling of his "regular" life and the demands of
his other identity, Spider Man. His duties as the superhero
are also getting in the way of his life with love interest,
Mary Jane (played by Kirsten Dunst). And,
of course, Spider-Man 2 isn't only about an identity crisis.
The superhero faces a challenging mission to stop the villainous efforts
of Dr. Otto Octavius, nicknamed Dr. Octopus. |

 This
exciting movie just might be enough to convince kids to do some
extra reading this summer. Whether they read the book before or
after they see the movie, Spider-Man 2 by Peter David will be an
enjoyable read. This one is appropriate reading level for older children and
adults. 
For
younger kids, a 48-page book entitled Spider-Man 2: The Movie Storybook (Spider-Man)
(at right) is available. It's a cute way to relive the movie and
features wonderful photos peppered throughout the story.

 For even younger
Spider-Man fans, who also happen to own the LeapPad, there's an
educational Leap Pad book, First Grade LeapPad Book: Spider-Man.
Budding readers follow the story of Peter Parker from the very beginning.
This is a good way for young children to get acquainted with the
superhero's beginnings, and at the same time, strengthen reading
skills, including reading comprehension, phonics, and compound
words. The book is narrated by Stan Lee, and of course children
interact with the software's pages using the special LeapPad stylus
pen.
 Spider Man 2 The Movie is available in
computer and video game format
for CD-ROM, GameCube, XBox, and Playstation 2. The games are
graphics-rich and action-packed in the video game versions. Children
"take on" Dr. Octopus himself, as well as assorted other
villains, and fight as many crimes as they can as they patrol the
streets of Manhattan. Besides re-living various locations and
situations from the movie, players meet up with other Marvel comic
characters. If you have a video game console, we recommend getting
the game for it instead of the PC version, which plays differently
(it's similar, but limited).
